Why Cards

A learning app built to solve my own problem

I couldn’t find an app I liked so I decided to make my own. I wanted something simple but playful to help me improve my French vocabulary.

Existing apps were either overcomplicated, not very fun to use, or required expensive subscriptions.

Carrying a few thousand flashcards in my pocket wasn’t feasible, so I decided to recreate the experience in the form of an app.

How it works

Learning made simple

Choose between vocabulary and phrases, pick your category and start swiping. You can start by going through over 500 cognates - words with identical or very similar translations to help you build your vocabulary fast. The coloured cards help you memorise genders and slideshow mode makes it a hands-free learning experience. Finally, you can use phrase mode to help you put your new vocabulary into practice.

Back to basics

Focus on what you want to learn.

The vision behind the Cards app was simple: strip language learning back to what matters. Choose exactly the vocabulary you want to practise, then keep swiping and reviewing until it sticks. The best part is, there’s no subscription to worry about.

Focused practice: choose vocabulary or phrases and narrow your learning by category, tense and more.No subscription: there is no account or database. You buy once and your data stays with you.Simple learning: swipe cards you know to the right and those you do not to the left, then repeat and review until confident.
